Despite the Fullmetal Alchemist manga concluding in Japan nearly a year ago and the re-vamped anime Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood; merchandise for the popular manga and anime is still in high demand. Since its end, a new movie has been confirmed for release this summer, and a few spin-off chapters have been published as well as extra OVA’s, art books and the usual goodies including posters and figures. But it was revealed that the latest commodities fans can get their hands on are something quite different.
The main character, Edward Elric, has his own perfume which fans can now buy. It is described to smell like a mix of ‘lemons, moss with undertones of lavender and coriander’. Not only that, but another popular character from Fullmetal Alchemist – Roy Mustang – has a fragrance as well, which will apparently be a ‘light marine scent with freesia violet’.
It may seem quite strange to release perfume inspired by anime characters, but what is the difference to the perfumes currently sold in the UK? Half of the fragrances for women and men on the shelves are by a ‘celebrity’ of some description from Britney Spears to Katie Price. It’s a well known fact that these people didn’t make or produce the perfumes themselves, so is there really any difference to buying Victoria Beckham’s perfume to Roy Mustang’s? Except the fact that the characters are both male and the eau de toilettes are reportedly for women.
If these prove popular, then it will be likely that more anime characters will release their own perfume. It only seems natural, and in the game Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2, Karin can equip perfume to fight with, doing medium damage and mildly poisoning and slowing down the opponent…
The Fullmetal Alchemist perfumes of Edward Elric and Roy Mustang will be sold from June in Japan and from selected Japanese online retailers. There is no confirmation as to whether they will be sold in the UK at a later date.
