Two new and similar trailers have been released for the new Fullmetal Alchemist movie on the official website. Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: The Sacred Star of Milos (劇場版 鋼の錬金術師) is scheduled to be released in Japan this summer and has fans buzzing, despite it appearing that the movie will be a ‘filler’ of some description. The official website has had a full re-design, and gives the names of the main cast, including two new characters: Julia Chrichton and Melvin Voyager. You can watch the trailer below.
Fullmetal Alchemist has been incredibly popular in both manga and anime form and follows the tragic adventure of brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric and their dabbling in the mystical science of alchemy. With the manga selling over 50 million copies worldwide, it’s also had a handful of spin-off games in Japan, two anime series under its belt and now another movie to add to the collection. Creator Hiromu Arakawa concluded the manga series in Monthly Shonen GanGan in July 2010, leaving the fans eager for more, despite its definite ending. The end of the second anime series, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, followed in quick succession and at the end of the broadcast of the final episode, a new movie was announced to be released in summer 2011.
The initial teaser trailer debuted in November last year and showed very little on the plot of the new movie. It had a mixed response over the different art style as it looked very different from the original 2003 anime and the reboot of the story, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. However, the new trailer appears to give more information as to when the story is set in the tight Fullmetal Alchemist timeline.
The opening of the trailer gives a sense of Déjà vu, as the scenario at the beginning is incredibly similar to the first episode of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (escaped prisoner in cornered by the Elric Brothers in an alleyway). The animation of the trailer looks still likely to divide audiences although the backgrounds and the new city and character design look intriguing. We glimpse side shots of fights, bridges collapsing and the new character Julia in peril to bulild up the excitement. The trailer plays music from the famous JRock band L’Arc~en~Ciel, and what appears to be their new song for the movie and will be the band’s forth contribution to the Fullmetal Alchemist franchise.
Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: The Sacred Star of Milos will be released in Japan this year. There has been no confirmed date in the US or UK, although due to its popularity, we hopefully won’t have to wait too long until we get our hands on it.
